Our Land is in Danger!
The Market Place Mall is a proposed mega mall slated to include nearly 800,000 sq. ft. of retail space located on 108.6 acres of forest, of which 14.3 acres is wetlands.
Proposed Location:
The vast area surrounded by Rt. 300, Rt. 52, and Interstate 84.
This construction project will overstress the current road situation, affect the Newburgh Mall negatively, and destroy one of the remaining ecosystems in our area.
Stop The Market Place Mall
Save Open Space is a group of concerned citizens who are fundamentally opposed to unchecked development and suburban sprawl. The Town of Newburgh is already experiencing unparalleled growth, taxing our services, infrastructure, and air quality. Now a developer from Westchester County plans to build another Woodbury Commons-like mega mall in an already congested area on Route 300.
This proposed project would level a forested hill that borders a traditional residential area, wetlands, and an historical park. Our group has organized to protect our neighborhoods from the destruction of our quality of life. We believe it is necessary to check rampant consumerism, and SAVE OPEN SPACE.
